Halls Ranch was a pretty cool hike. It is also a mountain bike trail, so be aware. The day that I hiked it, however, I only did a few miles because I was pretty sick from Sun Poisoning from our hike the previous day at St. Mary’s Glacier. I was secretly kicking myself for being sick and not having my bike.
This hike reminds me of something straight out of Utah. Being on the Front Range, Halls Ranch doesn’t get a ton of rain, so it has become a shrubby desert. I expected to see tumbleweeds at any moment.
Halls Ranch has absolutely no tree cover, from the locations I was at, so please bring your sunscreen and water packs. That sun will beat down on you!
The trail looked pretty smooth. It had really good flow and would occasionally break that up with some rock gardens, switchbacks, or drop offs.
I do recommend trying this trail if you want a cool hike or ride if you want to feel like you are in a western.
