I don’t know about you, but I am not a super wealthy man. I can’t go to the local auto dealership and drop $300,000 dollars on a specialty-ordered Bug-Out Vehicle (BOV). We generally look at basic sport utility vehicles and trucks that we can purchase, and still get decent performance.
Since the average person isn’t a billionaire, I thought a list of AFFORDABLE vehicles would be nice to have.
Before you drop an entire bank on these so-called “affordable vehicles”, think about buying a used version and saving a ton over the price of a new one. Get to the Bug-Out Vehicles (BOVs) already!
Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) – All Terrain and All Affordable
SUVs are great for terrain and comfort, and because they are so common, they are great for your wallet. Here is a nice list of SUVs that are sure to impress you with their prowess off-road.
Jeep Wrangler
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Jeep Cherokee
Jeep Liberty and Commander
FJ Cruiser
Hummer
Chevrolet Suburban
Toyota 4Runner
Toyota Land Cruiser
Nissan Xterra
Land Rover Range Rover
Trucks – Heavy Haulers with Off-Road Abilities
If you need something that can pull, tow, and carry almost anything, then you need a truck. But what if you need to do all of those things off the beaten path? Try one of these tough trucks.
Ford Raptor
Dodge Ram
Chevrolet Colorado
Ford Super Duty
Nissan Frontier
Toyota Tacoma
RVs – Designed to Get You There and Keep You There
If you stock your home, then you will have to leave it when you bug out. If you stock up your Bug-Out Location (BOL), then you won’t be able to stock up at home for a bug-in. What to do… Get an RV that you can stock with a lot of gear so you can have in in either location! These RVs May be small, but they are designed to be able hang with trucks and SUVs alike.
EarthRoamer XV-LT
Mercedes-Benz Unimog
Unicat Terracross TC59
Ford E-350 Superduty Ambulance
Rough and Tumble All-Terrain Vans
When looking at vans, I wanted to find stock 4×4 vans. I didn’t find much, but did come up with something. I know there are probably more 4-wheel drive vans out there, but not many that don’t cost as much as an RV.
Don’t Waste Money on a Vehicle because You Can’t Eat Metal and Rubber
You can completely waste your money if you have no bug-out plan and no storage or resiliency in your life, and then go out and blow thousands of dollars on a “cool” Bug-Out Vehicle (BOV).
But if you are going to purchase one, before you throw your wallet at a vehicle, consider what you want in a vehicle. Once you know what you want, then determine the type of vehicle that will do it for you.
Next, determine which vehicle in the list you want. Work on getting that one.
