I wanted everyone to consider the freedom in the 50 states, and which ones not to choose! So I decide to do a post on the 10 worst states to live in for overall freedom.
I have seen the “best of” lists on almost every single site possible in every genre, and I may do that next, but I think that I will do a worst of today. I will rate the state based on Fiscal, Personal, and Regulatory freedoms, although there are many more things to consider. #1 in a category is the best and #50 out of the states is the worst. I have an interactive map of freedoms at the bottom of this post. These worst ten states are probably not to be the ones that you would consider moving to.
Fiscal: #30
Personal: #44
Regulatory: #45
Overall: #41
Although they have some decent laws with land-use freedom, Mississippi is on this list their heavy dependence on federal grant money to keep taxes low and high spending. Occupation freedom is mediocre. The liability system is one of the worst in the country.
Fiscal: #32
Personal: #9
Regulatory: #49
Overall: #42
Lacking in educational freedom, Lots of regulation, no right-to work, poor libility system, and lots of debt accumulation due to low tax and high spending.
Fiscal: #47
Personal: #11
Regulatory: #29
Overall: #43
Really poor on economic freedom, but really good on personal freedom. Vernmont has the 5th highest level of taxes in the country, much of which is aimed at tourists. Poor on health insurance freedom and poor property rights. One thing this state has that I like? Permitless open and concealed carry of firearms.
Fiscal: #26
Personal: #49
Regulatory: #44
Overall: #44
Although it has great natural beauty, Maryland is dominated by big government democrats. Taxes are raised every year, and this includes taxing rain. You may own a gun, but you have to be fingerprinted and booked. There is no legal carry.
Fiscal: #27
Personal: #50
Regulatory: #42
Overall: #45
Commute times to get basic items is to large, partly due to traffic and also due to many businesses being regulated out of townships, so the distance is further. Illinois is lacking any real nice topography. Chicago Strong arms the rest of the state and pushes it’s tyrannical and usually liberal laws on the rest of the state.
Fiscal: #42
Personal: #33
Regulatory: #43
Overall: #46
With strict Gun Control, strict alcohol, tobacco, and gaming regulations Rhode Island is not a good way to go. If you want to homeschool or open a private school, good luck getting past the regulations here.
Fiscal: #49
Personal: #45
Regulatory: #41
Overall: #47
Volcano, Earthquake, Storms, and Tsunami make it difficult for a prepper to move into this location. The one thing that they have going for them is the fact that some of the land is so remote, that even the state government doesn’t really get involved in those areas on the remote islands.
Fiscal: #48
Personal: #42
Regulatory: #48
Overall: #48
The Laws have gotten so ridiculous in this state that owning a BB gun is like having a real gun, which will give your children a felony charge.
Fiscal: #44
Personal: #47
Regulatory: #50
Overall: #49
Earthquakes and Crime are prevelant here and many people that live there just don’t think it feels like the “Ideal of America” anymore.
Fiscal: #50
Personal: #48
Regulatory: #47
Overall: #50
The least free state. The highest taxes in the contry, yet still the most debt at 33.2%. Rent control destroys their economic status. Rampant eminent domain, poor labor laws, poor health care, high mandates, extreme gun control laws, high taxes thereby encouraging black market trade, and excessive home school regulations are all reasons why they are the least free state.
Let’s take a look at a snapshot of all of the states!
