I define entitlements vs priveledge, explain what are entitlements, what a sense of entitlement we have in this country, and the entitlement program failures.
There is a cancer among our society. The cancer is a feeling of entitlement. Welfare, foodstamps, and more are REQUIRED according to the average American. If you ask a liberal about these issues, you will get a resounding “yes” to the fact that the government is required to step in and help people.
If you ask a conservative, you will get a much better sounding answer. No the government is not there to tend to the individual needs. But if you probe with questions long enough, you will hear that the government should step in to provide incentives and assistance to businesses, and the effects would trickle down to the individual.
On the surface this sounds decent, but there is an issue with the underlying principle: People are not promised to be taken care of in their personal life… or their business. They are promised that they can persue happiness as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights of others. We aren’t promised to eat, or for housing… well at least by our constitution.
What was each citizen promised? A good life? A long life? A happy life? A big business? Wealth? Handouts? Everyone is promised Life, Liberty, and the PERSUIT of happiness. These are called inalienable rights. These are your birthrights.
These things ARE promised by a totalitarian state, because you can be formed into what they need to run the system.
People don’t understand that government is REQUIRED TO GROW or it will fail. If they can’t take that growth out of your life, they are doomed.
Another problem today is the fact that our government cannot stop the spending and cannot cut back. They understand that their plan has worked over the years, and people depend on the welfare provided.
Here is the slow progression of our mentality in a nutshell, and maybe you have heard the first half of it: What one generation tolerates, the next generation embraces. But, what one generation embraces, the next generation demands.
We are at the damanding state. We EXPECT help. I just finished watching a video (I am not going to share it because I don’t agree with much of it) that shows an interview with a woman. She had 15 children, 12 of which lived with her.
Her words were, “Someone has got to pay… for all of these children and for me… someone has got to be held accountable and pay.”
Well, here is a crazy idea: YOU NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND YOU NEED TO PAY. STOP HAVING CHILDREN AND GET A J.O.B.
The fact is this: If noone was dependant on the government, then noone would really care about it. They would be apethetic about government. And that scares them. Because with apethy will come their demise.
People riot because of housing vouchers. People in many disasters provide commentary that the government should have been there to rescue them, even when they had tons of notice.
In that situation, I would WANT rescued, but I don’t believe that I am entitled to it.
We should live life with the notion that we are promised that the outcome of our lives is a direct result of what we put into that, and the decisions that we make in life.
Also, when we turn things into entitlements, we remove the good that people otherwise would like to do with their own assets with less overhead costs.
I am going to end this here although I could probably go on forever because I don’t want this to become a novel. I just think we should rely on ourselves, and if you are a Christian, like I am, God’s interventions, but you should NOT rely on other people to support you, your decisions (good or bad), or your life.
