I grew up in Michigan were my love for the outdoors began. Summer days growing up were spent out on the water swimming, fishing and kayaking. I went to grad school in Tennessee and spent a lot of time mountain biking.
After graduation I moved out to Colorado with my wife who. She is a beast at climbing and swimming. We have one daughter who is so full of life and loves to eat!
It can be hard balancing work and play but my heart is always looking for the next adventure. I love to mountain bike, hike, ski, climb, run, and all that fun outdoor stuff. One of my favorite things though is the time around the campsite where you make a crappy dinner and drink warm beer but you have friends and family around to share the adventures with.
My first hike after moving to Colorado was on the craigs crest on the Grand Mesa. I was no stranger to hiking at this point in my life having spent plenty of time backpacking in Montana, Alberta and BC, but the unique location of the mesa with the desert directly below creates some unique weather. It was 90 degrees out and sunny at 10k feet yet there was still 4-5 feet of snow plus huge drifts (in late June).
Out of almost nowhere, a lightning storm moved in that dropped hail the size of golf balls. If you know this hike or even if you don’t, once you’re on the crest, you are completely exposed. It was an eye opening experience in what nature has to offer even if you think your ready.
I am the go to for gear recommendations amongst my family and friends. I have spent a lot of time testing gear out and used to do blog reviews when I was in undergrad. I have a lot of personal experience too with gear from bikes to packs and shoes.
I love helping people get outside and see something they never have or do something they have never done.
